Avoid Excessive Plastic When Grocery Shopping: Find your Local Farmer’s Market
I am a huge lover of shopping at my local farmer’s market for many reasons. I get to talk to the farmer directly and ask them questions, get to say no to plastic bags/unnecessary packaging, explore what is in season, etc.
You might be thinking– Hey, I’ve been to farmer’s markets and some items are packaged in plastic that you can’t just unwrap. The plus to going regularly to your local farmer’s market is that you can ASK whoever you are buying from if you can leave them with your glass jar or other container and ask them to fill it for the next weekend. For example, I asked the tea guy at The Torrance Farmer’s Market if he’d package my tea in a glass jar rather than the small plastic bags they use and he said he would totally do that. At the grocery store we have a lot less say in the packaging- so see below and check out a local farmer’s market near you! 😀
The Torrance Certified Farmer’s Market
When: Tuesdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Where: Charles H. Wilson Park located at 2200 Crenshaw Blvd. (between Sepulveda Boulevard and Carson Street)
Santa Monica Farmer’s Market
When: Saturdays 8:00am- 1:00pm/ Where: Arizona Ave. at 3rd street
OR
When: Wednesdays 8:00am- 1:00pm/ Where: Arizona Ave 2nd Street

Mar Vista Farmer’s Market
They have local DJ’s that play music throughout the month! Sweet!
When: Sundays 9:00am-2:00pm rain or shine!
Where: Venice Blvd. + Grandview Blvd.
Pasadena Certified Farmer’s Market
When: Saturdays
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m/ Where: Victory Park 2900 block of North Sierra Madre Blvd
OR
When: Tuesdays
8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m./ Where: Villa Parke located on 363 East Villa Street
Northridge Farmer’s Market & Family Festival (Opened seasonally)
When: Every Wednesday 5:00pm-9:00pm through November 1st
Where: The Northridge Fashion Center
